Makeup for beginners

Makeup-for-beginners

With the internet flooded with a new "must have" makeup product every second, it can be very confusing to know which products do you actually need, specially if you are just starting out with makeup. You can more often than not end up with products that don't work for you or products you have no idea how to use.(False eyelashes, anyone?) But don't worry, you just have to invest in a few right essentials and No! you don't need to spend a bomb on them.

So,if you are a teenager on a budget or a complete newbie to makeup or you just have 5 minutes to spare on your morning makeup routine (Cause there are important things to do like sleep, duh!) this post is for you!

I have shared my five makeup essentials to buy when you are starting out with makeup or products that are just enough to get you out of your house on everyday basis, with some product recommendations that have worked for me and links to where you can find them.

1. EYEBROWS

I cannot even explain the importance of doing up your eyebrows. If I am running late I may not apply any makeup except for doing my brows and I really wonder how did I ignore them for so long.It gives a structure to your face and makes you look well groomed instantly. You don't need to do anything fancy or aim for Cara Delevingne brows, just simply filling in your eyebrows with a brow pencil that compliments the natural colour of your eyebrow will do the job. There are various products available in the market like brow pencil, brow gel or brow powder but brow pencils are easiest to begin with and my favourites are Rimmel brow pencil and Maybelline fashion brow.

2. MASCARA

When I started out without makeup,I could never understood the fuss about mascara. I though it just made my eyelashes clumpy and hence I ignored it. But with time I understood what a big difference it makes to your eyes and has a immediately noticeable effect. It opens up your eyes and makes you look awake (even if you are not!). To avoid clumping, before you use the mascara, wipe the excess off the brush on a tissue and then apply. Most of the makeup artists always use a mascara for a 'no-makeup' look because it brightens up your face. Maybelline falsies is one of my favourite affordable mascara.

Buy 1.Maybelline magnum barbie mascara (Rs.399) ,2.Loreal Paris papillon mascara (Rs.895)3.Rimmel volume scandal eyes mascara (Rs.500)4.Maybelline falsies mascara (Rs.500)5.Maybelline lash sensational mascara (Rs.800)6.Too faced better than sex mascara (Rs.2990), 7.Maybelline hypercurl mascara (Rs.325)8.Maybelline Colossal mascara (Rs.375)9.Loreal Paris volume million lashes mascara (Rs.850)10.Benefit they're real mascara (Rs.1850)

3. LIPSTICK

As a makeup beginner, lipstick is probably the only area where you can be adventurous. The choice is endless in terms of colours, textures, finish, its all up to your choice and what you are comfortable with. If you still haven't ventured into lipsticks, start with a matte MLBB(My lips but better) shade, i.e. the shade almost like your lip colour but still makes your lips look good. Try buying a lip colour over the counter, because you can swatch various shades and decide what looks best on you.

4. EYELINER/KAJAL

Now, almost everyone in India, starts their makeup kit with a kajal or an eyeliner. So this product needs no introduction. Depending on your eye shape, colour, occasion you can decide what you would like to use. You can replace black with brown eye pencil if you need a more subtle look or you can use a nude eye pencil on your lower lash line to make your eyes look bigger. If you aren't that comfortable with eye pencil just keep it simple by applying the eye pencil as close to your lower and upper lash line as possible just to enhance and to give definition to your eyes.I find an eyeliner pen more easier to use as compared to liquid or gel eyeliner when you are starting out. I absolutely love the Maybelline colossal eyeliner pen.

5. FACE

There are so many products available in the market, from primers to BB creams, CC creams, foundation, that its very confusing to decide on what to pick and what not. For everyday, I think if you have good skin just your moisturiser with SPF is enough. If you have oily/combination skin, you can top it off with a compact powder and you are good to go.(That's what I do!)
On your not so good skin days, you can use a concealer for your dark circles or acne scars. However if you are still not happy and need more coverage, BB cream is your best bet.  BB creams provide light coverage and don't feel heavy like foundations which is perfect for everyday or when you are just starting out with makeup.
